Christmas Day

Christmas is easily my favorite holiday. I absolutely love being surrounded by family and friends during such a special time. We decided to spend this Christmas in Seaside, Florida. My family absolutely hates the cold and we will do practically anything to avoid it! It's a sunny 60 degrees out right now and I couldn't be happier. After taking these photos this morning (and sweating the whole time), I'm now happily chilling by the christmas tree in shorts and a tee shirt.

My Dressy "Lazy Day" Outfit

Usually, my lazy day outfit consists of either running shorts or leggings, but lately, I've been trying to dress more nicely. Turns out, J. Crew's pixie pants with a white teeflats, and J. Crew's cotton field jacket is just as comfortable! I accessorized with my BaubleBar statement necklace (sold out, similar ones here), a Michael Kors watch (old, similar here), and my Kate Spade sunglasses. I think I'll start ditching my running shorts more often.

Head Over Heels for Herringbone

Lately, I've been wearing my herringbone J. Crew Factory vest like crazy. It's most definitely my favorite J. Crew vest out of the ones I own! I love it so much that I "accidentally" wore it 3 times last week alone. Whoops. Even though it is patterned, there are so many adorable ways to style it!

Here are some of the ways I've worn it so far:

Thankful

I've been home since Monday, and I forgot how truly amazing it is to be surrounded by family and old friends. I forgot how much I missed my queen size bed and my father's laugh. I forgot how much I missed my brother telling dumb jokes and having my mom around to talk to. Coming home for Thanksgiving made me realize how blessed I really am. Sometimes, I get caught up in my schoolwork (and going out with friends) and I forget how lucky I am. I'm getting an excellent college education, I'm surrounded by a super supportive family, I have kick-ass friends, I have good health, and I have a roof over my head.

This week has reminded me that I need to slow down occasionally, put life on pause, and remember all of the amazing things and people that are in my life.

I'm thankful for my father because he works extremely hard every day to provide for our family. My father motivates me to to better daily–– he inspires me to do the best I possibly can.

I'm thankful for my dog, Charlie, for being by my side for the past ten years. He's the best dog I could have asked for, even if he is super camera shy.

I'm thankful for my mother because she is my rock. She keeps my grounded and she's the only reason I'm sane. She's like a sister to me, and she's most definitely my best friend.

I'm super thankful for my brother, Hank. Although we have our fair share of fights, I'm happy that we've grown so close over the past few years.

I'm greatly thankful for all of the friends I have, new and old. I'm grateful that I still keep in touch with my friends from high school and freshman year of college, and I'm grateful for the friends I've made since transferring to Rollins. I'm so incredibly blessed.

I'm also thankful for my blog readers and tumblr followers! I'm approximately 500 followers away from having 10,000 followers on tumblr which is something I never imagined would happen. Y'all are the best.

I love getting out of school and going home to visit my family, but finding gifts can be really tricky, especially if you wait until the last minute. Long Weekend in Siesta Key

This weekend, I went to Siesta Key, FL with my roommates for fall break. The beach was beautiful, and the small town of Siesta Key was charming and relaxing. It was the perfect long weekend, and the trip was definitely needed after the stressful midterms I had to deal with last week. Although I absolutely love Rollins, it'll be a little tough going back today and sleeping in a twin bed tonight. Even though I've only been gone since Friday, I kind of got used to sleeping in a queen bed again. Sprawling out while watching Gilmore Girls on Netflix at night was quite heavenly.

Yesterday afternoon, we decided to spontaneously do a beach "photo shoot" (because that's what a bunch of sophomore girls in college do for fun, obviously). The lighting was perfect and the waves were just right. Here are some photos that my roommates snapped of me!

A Peek Inside of My Dorm Room

About a month ago, I promised that I would do a blog post on my dorm room, and the time has come! I know it took me forever to write this, but that's because it took me forever to get my room done exactly the way I wanted it. There are still a few things that I want to do to my room, but I've decided that I would go ahead and share pictures of my dorm room in it's current state, so here it is!

For my bedding, I chose this adorable scalloped duvet cover from PBteen. I also got the matching sham and opted to get it monogrammed. All of my other pillows (except for the Kate Spade "hit snooze twice" pillow) are from HomeGoods.

For my gallery wall, I purchased all of my frames from Ikea. I fell in love with their frames immediately at the store, and all six of them were under $60 total. I printed out pictures and quotes on heavy matte photo paper that I purchased from Target. I found almost all of the prints I used for my gallery wall on pinterest (I made a board that includes the prints I used along with some of my other favorites). I mounted the picture frames to the wall using command strips. Command strips are a life saver! We are not allowed to nail things in the wall, but command strips are honestly better because they are so easy to use.

My desk cork board is from Target. I like Target's cork boards because of their simplicity–– since there are no distracting details on the frame, the pictures I selected to put on the board stand out more. My gold stapler and tape dispenser are also from Target. The jewelry boxes stacked in the corner of my desk are from Marshall's. I keep all of my favorite pieces that I wear the most inside of them. On top of my jewelry boxes is my bluetooth Jambox speaker. I thought I'd never use it, but I'm so glad I brought it to school with me! I use it almost every day.

Within the next month, I plan on making a headboard for my bed to cover the standard wood one that came with my room. I also plan on filling up the rest of the cork board with polaroid pictures I've taken throughout this semester so far.

White After Labor Day

I've never paid attention to the whole "no white after Labor Day" rule, because I think it's quite silly. I absolutely love wearing white, especially after Labor Day. This year, I've actually been wearing more white after Labor Day than I wore all summer. I was so excited when I checked the weather this morning, because it was cool enough to wear my new J. Crew Factory vest I purchased yesterday. I'm in love!

yepitsprep's back to school post!

I've been asked a ton of back to school related questions on tumblr, and I thought a short blog post would be the best way to address them all! Here are the most asked questions and my (hopefully helpful) answers. Enjoy!

What should I wear on the first day of school?

I made this collage on polyvore to give y'all some ideas! I'd go with a button down oxford shirt and pair it with either jeans or a fun skirt! For shoes, I'd wear either dressy sandals or flats.

What are some of your back to school necessities?

I made another collage on polyvore for this one because I really love collages. Duh.

Which backpacks do you recommend?

I really love the North Face's backpacks! Patagonia has some cute options too. Also, check out Herschel Supply Co.

Which agendas do you recommend?

I really love Lilly Pulitzer agendas, but I'm absolutely dying to get my hands on a Kate Spade agenda. I've also heard wonderful things about Erin Condren life planners.

What is a good picture day outfit?

When I was in high school, we had super strict rules on what we could/could not wear on out-of-uniform days. I always wore a dress for picture day, but I think a cute skirt and a white button down shirt would work too! I never wore heels on picture day because I wanted to be comfortable and I knew my feet were not going to be photographed.

What kind of notebooks and binders do you use?

I've actually been steering away from binders because I prefer spiral notebooks and folders instead! I almost always purchase them from Target because they are inexpensive and really cute!

If y'all have any more school related questions for me, don't be afraid to ask! Also, follow me on pinterest and instagram:)

How to have an amazing wardrobe on a tight budget

Almost everyday on my tumblr, I get asked how I dress nicely without breaking the bank. I was inspired to do this post because I hate spending ludicrous amounts of money on something that probably costs 20 cents to manufacture. Also, this post has been requested a few times! Hopefully the following tips help y'all to save as much money as possible when shopping for the brands you love!

Tips to save as much money as possible:

  • Shop the sale sections of regular stores or shop at the factory version of your favorite store. Let's look at J. Crew for example. Their three inch chino shorts at the regular store cost $45, but on the factory website, they go for $18.99. Some argue that the factory merchandise is lower quality, but I have not noticed a difference. If you aren't an online shopper and do not have a J. Crew factory store nearby, the regular J. Crew almost always has an excellent sale section worth checking out. Although J. Crew is a great example, this goes for all stores that have a factory version of themselves.

  • If you have a college ID, use it for discounts. Here is a full list of all stores that offer discounts for college students. These stores give you 15% off when you flash your college ID at the register: J. Crew/J. Crew Factory, Madewell, Banana Republic, The Limited, Ralph Lauren Rugby, and Kate Spade.

  • Shop consignment stores. The other day, I was wandering around downtown when I decided to go into a consignment store. I was shocked to see that they had a whole rack dedicated to gently worn Lilly Pulitzer clothing. None of it was in my size, but they had some really cute dresses for sale in patterns I had never seen before! It's definitely worth a shot to explore consignment stores in your area.

  • Try buying off of Ebay, Poshmark, Tradesy, or Re-Lilly. This is a great way to get items for less or to find sold out items for purchase online. The first three are safe as long as you check the seller's feedback first. Also, make sure the item is being shipped from the United States and not China (if it's being shipped from China, there's a good chance the item could be fake). Re-Lilly is a Facebook group designed to help women trade and sell Lilly Pulitzer clothing in new or excellent used condition.

  • Look for coupon codes when shopping online through websites like RetailMeNot. Also, keep your eyes peeled on tumblr for company representatives that can offer you their customized discount codes. For example, tumblr user naturallynautical is a representative for both Country Club Prep and Krass and Co., meaning when asked, she can offer you 20% off discount codes for those websites. This is a great way to save on Jack Rogers sandals and other preppy apparel sold on Country Club Prep's website.

Stay tuned for my next post because I'll be talking about how to earn money by cleaning out your closet and selling the things you don't wear anymore!
