An Updated Guide to ShopStyle Collective

Awhile back, I wrote a blog post on the basics of ShopStyle Collective, an affiliate links program for bloggers like myself. After realizing that a lot of y'all found it pretty helpful, I decided to do a more extensive post on it! I would recommend reading my first post on SSC before reading this one.

Create

This wonderful feature allows you to make product widgets, generate links for certain websites and products you've found on other websites besides SSC, monetize YouTube videos, and create looks for collections.

Building widgets is fairly simple:

All you have to do is search for the items and add them to the widget accordingly. After you're done selecting the desired products, just press "build" and it will take you to another screen where you can resize the widget and make other necessary adjustments. I use the widget builder to make the "current favorites" widget in my sidebar!

Click "publish" or "update" (depending on if it's your first time making the widget or if you're editing an existing one).

Building links is also a fairly easy process. I do this when I want to link to a store or a shopping website as a whole instead of linking to an individual product:

Then, just copy and paste the link and use it in your blog post. It's as simple and easy as that.

I personally do not film YouTube videos, so I have not tested the "video" feature of create. However, I assume it is very easy to use since SSC seems to be pretty user friendly!

Creating looks to add to collections works just like creating a widget-- you add the products you want, and then advance to the next step.

The only difference is that you can choose the photo for the look, add a caption, and tags. This is a great way to monetize Instagram photos on a page of your blog. This is how I update my "Shop My Looks" page.

Liking Products

This is relatively easy to do as well. When you are searching for a product, all you have to do is hover over a product and click the heart to "like" it. This saves the product under your likes, which is sort of like bookmarking it for later. I use this feature all the time to keep tabs on my fave shoes, dresses, etc...

Sold Out Notifications

This handy tool allows you to see when a product has been sold out that you've added to a widget, and it lets you remove the sold out product or find an extremely similar one.

Analytics

I have chosen to not include the part that has my total earnings, but if you scroll through the analytics section, it can offer a lot of insight as to what your readers like!

From looking at the top brands my readers love, I can make more conscious product selections in the future, targeting my readers with clothing items from J. Crew and shoes from Stuart Weitzman and Steve Madden.

I hope this updated guide helped a little more, and as always, feel free to email me with questions or leave them in the comments below. I love hearing from all of you!

  2. I cannot seem to get this to cooperate with me at all. I feel entirely daft; I don't know why it won't seem to work with me. I use Google chrome - could this be the issue?
